The automotive brake shims are thin layers of rubber or metal adhesive pads that are situated between the brake caliper and the brake pad to correct minor imperfections that cause brake noise. The brake shims are used in disc brake systems, which can prevent and reduce excessive noise generated by the disc, thereby stopping the movement of the wheel hub. The shims also increases the quality of the brake, thereby reducing the vibration of the brake pads and calipers. Automotive brake shims are utilized in all vehicle types, including two-wheelers, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles. Most of the new car models are fitted with these brake shims to reduce noise to a minimum. Nowadays, the manufacturers are focusing more on developing high-quality brake shims that are made of technologically advanced materials including viscoelastic polymers, fiberglass and elastic rubber. The increase in the demand for disc brake systems that improve safety and driving experience is likely to drive the automotive brake shims market. Moreover, the increasing demand for passenger cars and the rising awareness of safety are the key factors for the increasing demand for disc brakes, which in turn is estimated to promote the growth of the automotive brake shims market.

Market Segmentation:

Globally, the automotive brake shims market is segmented by type, by market type, by vehicle type, and by geographic coverage. The material type is further segmented into rubber and metal. The rubber brake shims accounts for the major share in the global market as they are widely used cars and motorcycles. The rubber brake shims are attached to the back of the brake pads with the help of a double sided tape. These rubber brake shims helps in reducing the vibration and noise thereby making the ride more comfortable. They also prevent the brake pistons from overheating, thus improving safety. The metal brake shims also shows a steady growth in the global market as they work like heat shields to protect the heat generated by braking effort from damaging the other brake parts. The metal brake shims have holes at the top and are screwed to the caliper pin which secures them between the brake pads and the calipers. But, the metal shims are not as good as noise dampeners and are used more as Insulation shields. The market type is further segmented into OEM and aftermarket. The OEM holds the largest revenue share in the global market owing to the rapid increase in the sales and production of vehicles. The OEM companies are investing high amount of money on developing high quality, durable, and lightweight materials for making auto components in order to reduce the overall weight of the vehicles which is gaining popularity in the global market. The aftermarket segment is also expected to show a significant growth in the global market as many customers are opting for aftermarket disc brake systems in their vehicles. Also, the increasing use of vehicles coupled with rising road traffic makes the vehicles generate more heat which can damage the brake shims and other brake parts. Thus, the replacement of brake components will create demand for aftermarket products thereby leveraging the growth of the aftermarket segment in the global market. The vehicle type is further segmented into motorcycles, passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The passenger cars segment holds the maximum share in the global market in terms of volume and revenue. The increasing urbanization, improvement in the living standards, and rise in the purchasing power have encouraged individuals to own private cars which is consequently boosting the sale and production of passenger cars globally.
