Ethylbenzene is an organic monocyclic aromatic compound with chemical formula C6H5CH2CH3. It is a colorless, flammable liquid with gasoline-like odor. It is highly employed in petrochemical industry as an intermediate in the production of styrene and used as precursor of polystyrene. It is produced commercially by combining benzene and ethylene. Increasing application of ethylbenzene as anti-knocking agent in gasoline is expected to drive the market.

Increasing demand for polystyrene, styrene and styrene based polymers shall positively influence the market. The adoption of polystyrene in packaging and consumer goods applications is one of the factor driving the market growth. Additionally, increasing demand for anti-knocking agents employed as fuel additives for gasoline and other fuels shall boost the demand for ethylbenzene.

However, ethylbenzene is a classified as a possible carcinogen by the International Agency of Research on Cancer (IARC). This is expected to act as limiting factor for market growth.
