A gas mask is used to protect a wearer from poison gas. A gas mask mainly filters inhaled air. These two techniques used to protect the individual from toxic air. The two techniques are reaction and exchange technique and absorption and adsorption technique. In reaction and exchange technique, resins are used so that when a toxic gas is passed through a filter containing a layer of resins, the gas particles react with resins to form harmless material. In absorption and adsorption techniques, hazardous contents from the inhaled air are absorbed while passing through a filter.

There are different types of gas masks, such as filter-based masks, supplied-air masks, oxygen masks. The filter-based masks rely on a filter for air cleaning. These masks are simple, less costly, and clean the incoming air effectively. Supplier-air masks come with a battery-operated canister along with a filter. It consists of a fan on the canister pumps in the air, the air is passed through a filter and gets purified. Oxygen masks are used by pilots flying at high altitudes. Plastic oxygen masks are also used in hospitals for oxygen therapy.
