The gasoline particulate filter (GPF) is used for controlling the fuel emission level of particulate substance in various direct fuel injected gasoline vehicles. The engines are equipped with the exhaust system of the vehicle. The wall of the filter traps and collects the particulate substances in the exhaust of an engine before emission, thereby reducing the level of particulate matter emissions and positively impacting the environment, and minimizing global warming. The automotive manufacturers are working towards developing vehicles that eliminate harmful emissions and improve efficiency of vehicles. Also, the manufacturers are striving to gain expertise in global emission standards and regulatory compliance, optimal vehicle performance, and cost-effective solutions, thereby driving the growth of the gasoline particulate filter market. Moreover, the increase in the number of gasoline direct injection (GDI) vehicles in the global market is one of the main reason for the growth of the GPF market. In Europe, several countries have implemented the Euro 6 policy, which sets various emission standards for vehicle emission levels. For example, The European Union has set particle number (PN) limits under Euro 6 regulations for gasoline direct injection (GDI) passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

Market Segmentation:

Globally, the gasoline particulate filter market is segmented by type, by vehicle type and by geographic coverage. Based on type, the market is further segmented into ceramic gasoline particulate filters and cordierite gasoline particulate filters. The cordierite gasoline particulate filters hold the largest share in the global market owing to its wide usage in most of the vehicles. The cordierite gasoline particulate filter is used to remove particulate matter emitted by direct injection gasoline vehicles. Filters based on cordierite have lower production costs and provide many beneficial technical features. Bosch Company has launched a complete filtration system which consists of cordierite particle filters and regeneration management software known as DPF-AC. The market type is further segmented into OEM and aftermarket. The OEM segment holds the major share in the global market and is expected to maintain its dominance over the forecast period. According to the emission standards set by the governments of various countries, the OEMs are integrating GPFs to control the emission levels as mandated by the government which is expected to boost the demand for GPF in the global market. Also, the OEMs are now focusing on developing cars with high performance and high fuel efficiency thereby reducing the size of the powertrain. The aftermarket is also expected to show an exponential growth in the global market as the existing vehicles on road are also mandated to abide by the emission standards in order to control the level of emission. The vehicle type is further segmented into passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The passenger cars segment holds the major share in the global market and is expected to maintain its dominant position over the forecast period. The growing urbanization, improvement of living standards, development of road infrastructure and increase of disposable income are the primary reasons for the rapid growth of the number of passenger cars, especially in countries such as India, China, Japan and few countries of Europe. Passenger cars are mainly composed of gasoline engines. Therefore, most gasoline-powered vehicles are integrated with gasoline particulate filters, which helps control fuel emissions. The government's strict emission standards to reduce the increasing fuel emissions and improve fuel efficiency, as well as various measures to improve the safety of drivers and passengers, have also provided impetus for the growth of the market.

Regional Analysis:

Geographically, the Gasoline Particulate Filter market is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and the rest of the world. Asia Pacific holds a largest revenue share in the global market expected to uphold its dominating position during the forecast period. The main reason for the large number of vehicles in this region is the rapid growth of population, increasing urbanization, improvement of living standards, expansion of the industrial sector and improvement in the income level of people. With the growing automobile production, the vehicle emissions are also increasing significantly, thus leading to air pollution and global warming. Taking this situation into consideration, the governments of developing and developed countries including India, China and Japan have implemented strict vehicle emission standards. For example, India and China are moving towards achieving BS VI and China VI by 2020, which is equivalent to Europe’s Euro VI emission standards. This important step towards strict emission standards is expected to create huge demand for a variety of after treatment equipment. China and Japan are the leading countries in manufacturing after treatment equipment in this region.
