Animal sedatives are referred to as veterinary drugs used to sedate, calm or incapacitate an animal before proceeding for medical procedures including surgery, treatments, or administration of a drug. Animal sedatives include a large variety of sedatives such as acepromazine, phenobarbital, gabapentin, xylazine, and lidocaine. Animal sedatives play a crucial role in the prevention of diseases, pain management in animals, curing of the diseases of the afflicted animal, and treatment of the injuries. These products also help in the prevention of transmission of zoonotic diseases and in the diagnosis of animal cancers.

According to the Animal Cancer Foundation (ACF), it is estimated that 6 million dogs are diagnosed with cancer every year in the United States. Growing prevalence of the zoonotic diseases, increasing incidences of animal cancers, and growing investments in research activities by key players for the development of effective animal sedative molecules in order to enhance the safety and quality of care in animals are some of the factors likely to boost the animal sedatives market during the forecast period.

Increasing prevalence of animal diseases and growing applications of animals in medical research are the major factors likely to drive the growth of animal sedatives during the forecast period. Moreover, increasing adoption of sedative drugs used to reduce the anxiety level in animals and the enhancing the quality of care in animals during diagnostic & surgical procedures are likely to boost the animal sedatives market during the forecast period.

However, due to the adverse effects such as reducing respiratory rate, lowering blood pressure, cardiovascular collapse, and etc., while using sedatives in animals are likely to hamper the growth of animal sedatives during the forecast period.

Key Players Covered

One of the most commonly used phenothiazines is Acepromazine which could be used alone or in conjugation with other sedatives which can be used as pre-operative medications, used to reduce travel anxiety, prevent allergies and itching in animals.
