Oil recycling is a process of restoring the properties of used oil in order to make the oil usable for other applications. The automotive oil recycling is a process of recycling oil used in the vehicles and reusing it for other industrial applications. The automotive oil recycling process involves different methods which include filtering in which removal of solids present in the oil is done.

In the demineralization process, some additives and inorganic materials are removed from the oil. In the propane de-asphalting process, the heavy bituminous fractions are removed whereas in the distillation process the components of lubricating oil are removed on the basis of volatility. In the solvent extraction process, the undesirable elements are dissolved and removed, and in the end, the properties of the re-refined oil are improved through a hydro finishing process.

By oil type, the automotive oil recycling market is bifurcated on the basis of oil type recycled, which includes engine oil, hydraulic oil, gear oil, and others. The oil types are classified on the basis of used oil obtained from the engine parts, hydraulics, and gearbox of the vehicles. By applications, the automotive oil recycling market is categorized based on the use of recycled oil as boiler fuel, space heating fuel, industrial heating, among others.

The recycled oil is also used as an additive for manufactured products, for mold releasing applications in the plastic industry and as transformer oil among other applications. The boiler fuel oil segment is expected to dominate the global automotive recycling oil market owing to high demand from different industries.

The automotive oil recycling process allows the recycle and reuse of the used automotive oil for other applications. This enables the manufacturers to save the raw material costs required to produce the oil as a whole new product. The reduction in the cost of the raw material is expected to have a positive impact on the growth of the automotive oil recycling market during the forecast period.

Additionally, the recycling of automotive oil reduces oil disposal concerns and thus acts as an environmentally friendly process. Owing to this the automotive oil recycling market is expected to grow at significant rates in the regions such as Europe and North America where the regulations related to the disposal of oil are stringent as compared to the other regions.

The countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, China, and Chile among others are focused on increasing the electric vehicle fleet. An increase in the electric vehicle fleet is expected to reduce the availability of the automotive oil for recycling as the electric vehicles do not use engine oil. Owing to the growth in the sale of electric vehicles, the growth of automotive oil recycling market is expected to retard in the near future.
