Industrialization is the process by which manufacturing industries develop from within a predominantly agrarian society. During this period, both economic and social changes are paired with technological innovation, leading to a massive manufacturing growth, where the economy itself, is organizing for the purpose of manufacturing. The coal is one of the important and cheapest sources of energy.

With the increasing usage of coal, the environmental concern has also increased. The coal combustion releases harmful gases like nitrogen oxide, sulphur oxide, carbon and other harmful gases which is the main reason for global warming, acid rain, and environmental degradation. To solve this environmental problem, we can’t totally abandon the use of coal in the industries.

Government of many countries investing a huge amount in research to resolve the carbon emission issue. Ample research has been conducted owing to increasing concern over carbon emission caused by traditional coal combustion plants. The circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers are mainly used for the electricity generation which effectively helps to keep carbon emission under control.

Circulating fluidized bed boilers absorbed carbon before it emitted to the environment. The technology has grown recently owing to strengthen carbon emission regulation. The use of circulating fluidized bed boilers has grown from small scale industries to ultra-large plants.

On the basis of type, the global circulating fluidized bed boilers market can be segmented into subcritical CFB boiler, supercritical CFB boiler, and ultra-supercritical CFB boiler. Supercritical CFB boiler and ultra-supercritical CFB boiler have the dominating market in the above segmentation. Coal is widely used for power generation and it emits harmful greenhouse gases which is one of the major issues.

Supercritical CFB boiler and ultra-supercritical CFB boiler are used mostly used in high megawatt power generation plant. The advanced supercritical CFB boiler is highly advance in technology, provide better fuel efficiency and emit low carbon as compare to conventional fluidized bed boiler.

On the basis of feedstock, the global circulating fluidized bed boilers market is segmented into coal, pet coke, and biomass. Coal is widely used as the fuel for the circulating fluidized bed boilers owing to its better burning efficiency as compare to other fuels. On the basis of end-user, the global circulating fluidized bed boilers market is segmented into oil & gas, power, chemical, manufacturing and other. Circulating fluidized bed boilers have been used widely by the Oil & gas industry and power generation industry owing to the increase in the number of industries and residential area the requirement of power has been increased in the coming year.

Coal and several fossil fuels are widely used for power generation. Owing to the use of coal and fossil fuels for power generation which emits huge carbon emission. Strengthen in the carbon regulation regarding pollution tend to robust demand for the circulating fluidized bed boilers from various power generation industries.

The factor that is expected to drive the growth of global circulating fluidized bed boilers market is the carbon emission is one of the major issues of all industries. Circulating fluidized bed boilers is an environmentally friendly solution for the coal-fired boiler that helps to reduce carbon emission. It provides fuel flexibility; it can use a variety of fuels including low-grade coal-like anthracite, bituminous, etc. or other waste.

The use of CFB boiler has increased rapidly owing to it provide clean coal combustion and applied for large scale operation. It increases the efficiency of the overall plant and the installation cost is also, low as compare to other conventional fluidized bed boilers.

The factor that is expected to restrain the growth of the global circulating fluidized bed boilers market is owing to the over-exploitation of natural resources like coal, fossil fuel, etc. To prevent non-renewable resources from extinct, various end-users are switching to renewable sources of energy like solar energy, wind energy, etc.

Regional Analysis

The global circulating fluidized bed boilers market has been segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. North America is the leading market in the circulating fluidized bed boilers owing to strengthen regulation to curb carbon emission from several plants and raising awareness about the impact of carbon emission. The industries are also focusing to use low carbon technology. In Europe, owing to preventing dangerous climate change most countries are working hard to cut its greenhouse gas emission from industries. In the Asia Pacific, the demand for clean energy and continuous electricity supply has increased in countries like China and India. To fulfil continuous electricity and clean energy demand the installation of a more number of circulating fluidized bed boilers for power generation. In Latin America, the upgradation of the conventional power generation plant has been in progress to curb carbon emission. These are the factors expected global circulating fluidized bed boilers market to grow.

Key Industry Developments

  • In Jun 2019, San Miguel Corp. will invest $2.4 billion for two new coal-fired power project which is equipped with a circulating fluidized bed boiler in the plant and designed to be of multiple fuel capacity. The new project has a target to add 1200MW capacity for Luzon grid, the Philippines which will help to fulfil long term power supply across the country.
  • In May 2019, Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. secured $100 million deal to supply three circulating fluidized bed boiler to Thai refiner to upgrade refinery. The boiler use oil pitches as fuel and able to generate 990 tons of steam per hour. Also, it is helpful to reduce the emission of harmful gases like nitrogen oxide and sulphur oxide.
  • In Nov 2018, ANDRITZ has received an order from Toyo Engineering Corporation, Japan to deliver a circulating fluidized bed boiler with flue gas cleaning system for new biomass plant to be built in Takaoka, Japan. The circulating fluidized bed boiler will help biomass plants to generate power about 50MW also, lower carbon emission and increase the efficiency of the plant.
