Oil and gas play a major role in providing the primary source of fuel in every sector around the world. There is significant growth in the development of a piping system for the transportation of fluid. A systematic and proven thermal insulation is essential to prevent freezing of a fluid in a pipe. Electric heat tracing system is employed to monitor and maintain the temperature on vessels, tanks, pipes, valve, and instrumental panels. Heat tracing is a method to provide supplemental heat just enough to compensate for the heat loss due to lower ambient temperature. The general intent of the heat tracing is either winterization tracing or process maintenance. Winterization tracing is designed to protect the product from freezing whereas process maintenance is used where higher temperature must be maintained for the purpose of reducing product viscosity. Thus, electrical heat tracing system is very essential in effective transportation of hydrocarbons through the pipe without any difficult. Also, it prevents any major shutdown of the pipeline due to harsh environmental condition.

Electric heat tracing system is segmented on the basis of component, application and end user. Electric heat tracing component is further divided into the heat tracing cables, power connection kit, RTD sensors, and other accessories. Self-regulating heating cables are designed and built to regulate their output as per the process needs i.e. as the process temperature decreases, the output of cable increase and vice-versa. It is most suitable for up to 200 °C and circuits up to 750 feet. Mineral insulated cables are employed where additional protection is needed and is suitable up to 650°C and 3300 feet. Skin effect heating cables are specially designed for longer heating circuits around 25km and typically rated for up-to 250°C.

The immense growth in commercial and industrial sectors lead to higher consumption of oil and gas which increased the infrastructure of oil storage terminal and pipeline which anticipates the growth of the electric heat tracing system. A number of companies are adopting the system to prevent frozen equipment, blocked pipes, production loss, plant shutdown, structural shutdown, and repair work which is driving the electric heat tracing market.

The requirement of continuous auditing essential to identify non-functioning/problematic heat trace and complexities in insulation are identified as restraints which are likely to deter the progress of global electric heat tracing market.

Regional Analysis

The global electric heat tracing system market is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa. North America is probably the most suitable region for expansion of electric heat tracing system due to extreme weather condition. The incessant snowfall and cold condition in the United States and Canada actuating the need of electric heat tracing system for effective transmission and distribution of petroleum products without any interruption. The extreme weather condition, snowfall, and atmospheric temperature difference have evolved the adoption of an electric heat tracing system for effective supply of oil and gas. Due to freezing of pipeline pressure inside the pipe increases and pipeline may burst which disrupts the overall pipeline system. Operators in Europe are precisely implementing the system is driving the electric heat tracing system market. China, India, Japan, South Korea, and Australia are some of the key countries focussing on improving transportation of oil and gas sectors which is paving the way for the development of electric heat tracing system in the Asia Pacific. Many countries in MEA such as UAE, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc. are involved in E&P of hydrocarbon and is a net exporter of oil and gas to many countries around the world. A large number of an oil storage tank and pipelines are built to transport hydrocarbons over a long distance which anticipating the growth of the electric heat tracing system in MEA.
