A Hernia is referred to a medical condition where there is an abnormal exit of an organ or tissue through the weak spot surrounding connective tissue or muscle, where it normally resides. A hernia is classified into different types such as inguinal, femoral, incisional, umbilical and others. The most common type of hernia is the inguinal hernia. According To the Asia Pacific Hernai Soceity (Aphernia), estimated 93.0% cases of hernia are inguinal. In Australia, inguinal hernias are common, with approximately 3 percent women and 27 percent men developing one during their lifetime.

Increased prevalence of hernias, increasing aging population, increasing incidences of obesity, technological advancements in minimally invasive hernia treatment procedures, and demand for preventive medical care are some of the major factors driving the growth of the global hernia repair devices market. In a clinical review published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), in 2008, it was reported that the rate of usage of surgical procedures for the treatment of hernia ranged from 10 per 100,000 of the population in the U.K. and 28 per 100,000 of the population in the U.S.The clinical review also stated that inguinal hernias were the most common form of abdominal wall hernia, constituting about 75% of the total abdominal wall hernias. These trends combined with the other factors are expected to drive the growth of the global hernia repair devices market growth during the forecast period.

Inadequate reimbursement policies for hernia repair devices in emerging countries, and lack of diagnosis rates of hernia in developing countries are some of the factors restraining the growth of the global hernia repair devices market during the forecast period of 2019-2026.
