Efficient and reliable pumps are used in several systems which are required to achieve sustainable development goals. The demand for high-pressure pumps is bound to rise on account on development and modernization. High-pressure pumps are used to increase efficiency and have several modern-day applications

High-pressure pumps operate in the pressure from 20 bar to 3000 bar. The possible applications of high-pressure plunger pumps are extremely varied: humidification system and adiabatic cooling, industrial cleaning, boiler feed pump, hydraulic mining stations, process pumps in the chemical industry, stress tests for pipelines, water mist injection for gas turbines, automobile fuel injection, desalination and reverse osmosis and fire fighting systems. The performance spectrum of high-pressure pumps is so diverse that the proper pump solution can be developed for every application.

Based on capacity, high-pressure pumps can be segmented into low pressure (20 to 100 Bar), medium pressure (100 to 500 Bar), and high pressure (Above 500 Bar). Low-pressure pumps dominate the market due to their myriad uses. Based on type, high-pressure pumps are segmented in dynamic and positive displacement pumps. Based on end-user industry, the high-pressure pump market can be segmented into oil & gas, minerals & mining, water & wastewater treatment, chemical & pharmaceutical, power generation, manufacturing industries, and others.

The major market driver for global high-pressure pump market is the increase in the use of pumps in the industrial sector. Growth in several desalination plants is expected to boost demand for pumps. Almost all modern industries use high-pressure pumps for fuel injection. Key market restraint for the global high-pressure pump market is the high initial cost. The high initial cost is a result of fluctuating raw material prices due to trade barriers and tariffs.

Strict implementation of fire safety regulations for residential and commercial infrastructures in North America and Europe is expected to boost demand for high-pressure pump system. Replacement of aging boiler feed pump in a conventional power plant in Europe and North America is expected to increase the need for high-pressure boiler feed pump. The steady growth of traditional automobiles in North America and Europe is expected to give steady growth to high-pressure pumps market.

Key Industry Developments

  • In July 2019, High Pressure Equipment Company (HiP), a subsidiary of Graco Inc., has introduced PT2020 Automated Controller System for air-driven high-pressure hydraulic pumps. The PT2020 controller is designed to provide automated pressure control for a wide range of hydrostatic testing. The automated pump controller comes in five pressure ratings: 10,000 psi, 25,000 psi, 40,000 psi, 60,000 psi and 75,000 psi.

  • In June 2019, Morocco is constructing the world’s largest seawater desalination plant which costs around $310 million. It will have a treatment capacity of around 75 million cubic meters of water per year. The plant is expected to be operating in 2021.

  • In Mar 2018, GEA presented its first high-pressure pump for membrane filtrations such as reverse osmosis and nanofiltration in dairies at Anuga FoodTec 2018. The GEA Hilge HYGIA H is a systematic further development of the GEA pump portfolio and expands the range of products for the dairy industry.
