The policy of Reduce, Reuse & Recycle, and resource efficiency are promoted as the basis of sustainable waste management. Water is a scarce resource, and its consumption is increasing day by day. Reducing water consumption, recycling water and reusing it is of great importance. Industrial separators play an important role in recycling water and sustainably disposing of waste oil and chemicals mixed with water.

Industrial separators are remediation devices that separate oil/chemicals from water and wastewater. Industrial separators are designed to treat all contaminants in water, which include free-floating oil, emulsified oil, dissolved oil, and suspended solids. Not all oil separator types are capable of separating all contaminants. "Oil" can be taken to mean mineral, vegetable and animal oils, and the many different hydrocarbons. Industrial separators are designed and selected after consideration of oil separation performance parameters and life cycle cost considerations

Based on technology, the industrial separator is segmented in gravity, sponge, coalescing, centrifuge, and others. The different types of separating technologies are suitable for ppm of oil in the outlet water and various flow rates. Coalescing type of separator is ideally suited as a permanent installation to treat a wastewater stream before it is released to the environment or to trade waste. Centrifugal type separators are used for high flow rate applications Based on end-user, industrial separator are segmented in oil and gas, Chemical, Food and Beverage, Water and Wastewater, Marine, etc.

The primary market driver for the global industrial separator market is the regulatory push towards the use of Industrial separators for water treatment. Various governments have implemented strict regulations on the disposal of waste. The key market restraint for industrial separator market is the high cost emerging technologies.

Key Players Covered:

Some of the notable companies in the global Industrial separator market are GEA Group, Veolia Water Technologies, HydroFloTech, Oil Water Separator Technologies, Highland Tank, Wärtsilä, Victor Marine Ltd., Ultraspin, Mercer International Inc., Eaton, Ecologix Environmental Systems, Alfa Laval, Parkson Corporation, ANDRITZ, Schlumberger, Eneka UAB, BOSS Separators, CECO Environmental Corporation and Al Kafaah LLC.

Regional Analysis:

The global industrial separator market is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. Asia Pacific led by China, Japan and India are expected to dominate in the global industrial separators market in the coming year. The industrial and manufacturing activity is growing in Asia-Pacific. The increasing demand for industrial separators will come from industry verticals such as food & beverage, chemical, metal finishing, etc.

Strict regulation related to the removal of oil from wastewater in all industries, mainly marine vertical in China, Japan, etc. will boost demand for industrial separators. The population of Asia-Pacific region is increasing and generating a lot of wastewater. Most of the wastewater is dumped directly in the water bodies without any treatment. This trend will change will in coming years, and industrial separators will be used to treat wastewater. This treated water can be used for agriculture and other non-portable purposes, which will naturally reduce water stress.

The Middle East and Africa have the greatest potential for the growth of industrial separators. The African continent has relatively untapped potential for industrial separator market. Investments in African region have been growing since the last decade, and industrial activities are increasing. This represents a good chance for growth of industrial separators market. Due to dominant oil and gas activities in Middle-East, industrial separators will have steady growth.

Latin America will experience growth of industrial separator market on account of growing industrial sectors like agricultural processing, biofuels, etc. and increasing awareness about treatment of wastewater before releasing it in the environment. Europe and North America will positively influence the industrial separator market due to the environmental protection regulations and technological advancement in the region. The oil and gas industry in both region will provide steady growth for the industrial separators.

Key Industry Developments

  • In February 2019, CECO Environmental delivered large-scale 3-phase horizontal separators for one of the largest Country Gathering Centers in the Middle East. The separators, spanning more than 24,000mm, or 80 feet in length, are the first group in the overall order of five that will be part of a multi-stage process that includes the separation of gas, water, and oil to meet the quality required for downstream operations.

  • In October 2018, German engineering group GEA has announced that it has concluded the sale of its GEA Westfalia Separator Production France SAS entity to the French industrial group Altifort. The Westfalia business unit specializes in manufacturing separators and decanters.
