Lithotripsy is a medical technique used to break down stones in the kidney, gallbladder, or ureter with the use of the shock waves or a laser. There are two types of lithotripsy, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and intracorporeal lithotripsy. During lithotripsy, high-energy shock waves are passed through the human body until they reach urolithiasis. The high energy shock waves break down the stones into very small pieces which can be easily passed through your urinary system.

According to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), it is estimated that around 500,000 globally were suffering from urolithiasis in 2016. Lithoclast Maste is a device developed by Boston Scientific Corporation or its affiliates., which is a combination of ultrasound and pneumatic lithotripsy for the removal of urolithiasis. Lithotripsy devices are safe, non-invasive and are effective in disintegrating large and hard stones.
