Pipes are long, hollow tubes that are used mainly to convey products from one location to another. Pipelines are used to send liquids and gases (fluids), slurries, powders, and masses of small solids. It can also be used for structural applications; hollow pipe is far stiffer per unit weight than solid members. Seamless pipe offers more strength as compared to a welded pipe and drawn pipe.

In Seamless pipe, there are no welding or joints and is manufactured from solid round billets. Traditionally, the seam of welded pipes has been viewed as a weak spot, vulnerable to failure and corrosion. However, improvements in the manufacturing process for welded pipes have increased the strength and performance of the weld seam. Still, seamless pipes prevent any possibility of a weak seam.

In general, welded steel pipes can withhold less working pressure than seamless ones. Seamless pipes harden as they are manufactured, so heat treatment after manufacturing is not required. Most welded pipes require heat treatment after producing. Seamless pipes can be substituted for the welded pipe, but welded pipes may not always be able to be substituted for seamless pipe due to the weld seam.

Based on type, the seamless pipes market can be bifurcated as hot finished pipes and cold-finished pipes. Based on material, the seamless pipe market can be segmented into steel & alloys, copper & alloys, aluminum and magnesium alloys, nickel & alloys, among others. Based on the manufacturing process, the global seamless pipe market can be segmented into mandrel rolling, Multi-Stand Plug Mill, Cross-Roll Piercing & Pilger Rolling. Based on end-user, the seamless pipe market can be segmented into oil and gas, power generation, automotive, aviation, construction, military, process industry, etc.

The primary market driver for the global seamless pipe market is the modernization of aging pipe infrastructure. Rapid industrialization is also a significant driver for seamless pipe market. Use of high strength and high corrosion-resistant pipes is being used in the process industry.

The critical market restraint for the global seamless pipe market is increased tariffs and duties. The trade war also negatively influences the seamless pipe market. Longer procurement lead time is required for seamless pipes as compared to welded pipes.

Regional Analysis

The global seamless pipe market has now been spread into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa. Asia-Pacific is expected to dominate the seamless pipe market because of rapid industrialization of countries like India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, etc., increase in downstream oil and gas activities in India and China, increase in power generation plants and fast urbanization. Government initiatives to boost manufacturing activities in China, USA, India, etc. is expected to spur a seamless pipe market. Middle-East is also likely to provide a steady demand for the seamless pipe on account of deep-sea exploration. Africa has the highest potential for growth of seamless pipe in the coming future. Oil and gas pipeline projects in Europe is expected to increase the demand for seamless pipe market. Worldwide growth of the chemical industry can boost the seamless pipe market.
