The inert gas generator system is a gas generator system that produces gases having oxygen less than 5% in it. IGGS burns fuel to generate exhaust gas, which in turn passes through scrubbers to pass cleaning. Inert gases have a very low concentration of oxygen, making them ideal for suppressing the combustion of flammable hydrocarbon fuels or gases. The inert gas system spreads the inert gas over the mixture of oil cargo hydrocarbon to create a barrier between oxygen-rich air and fuel to prevent the explosion. The increasing commercial aircraft & military cargo aircraft procurement and retrofitting of IGGS on existing aircraft across the world are expected to drive the market for inert gas generator systems.

Based on type, the market is segmented into marine IGGS, aviation IGGS, and industrial IGGS. The industrial IGGS type dominates the market and is expected to grow significantly during the forecast period, owing to the increasing installation of on-site inert gas generator systems. This installation is majorly done for industrial N2 gas requirements along with retrofitting of industrial IGGS. On the other hand, the marine IGGS segment is expected to witness the highest growth during the forecast period due to the increasing demand for marine IGGS systems as the fleet size for marine cargo ships.

Based on the component, the market is segmented into air separation module, air compressor, surge tank, filtration chain, scrubber, monitoring devices, pumps, and others. The industrial IGGS component segment dominates the market and is expected to lead the market during the forecast period due to the increase in the demand for on-site generated N2 gas by industrial IGGS. In the marine IGGS segment, under the SOLEX Amendments, every cargo ship carrying inflammable cargo is required to be fitted with an inert gas generator system. This is one of the major factors driving the market for the marine IGGS components segment.

Based on the end-user, the market is classified into aviation, marine, and industrial. The industrial segment dominates the market and is expected to grow significantly during the forecast period, owing to the growing spending on factory-installed nitrogen generators in existing industrial installations and new industrial installations, majorly for decreasing dependence on external N2 gas suppliers. The marine segment accounts for the second-highest share in the market, owing to the increasing demand for new cargo ships globally. The marine segment is expected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecast period.

Based on the sales channel, the market is classified into OEM fit and retrofit. The OEM dominates the market and is expected to grow significantly during the forecast period, owing to the growing demand for new commercial aircraft from the emerging economies. Demand from the countries such as India and China is expected to boost the market for this segment. In addition, the increasing demand for new cargo ships is expected to propel the demand of the OEM segment. The retrofit end-user segment is expected to witness steady growth during the forecast period, owing to the new technological advancements in the aviation sector.

The major market driver for the inert gas generator system market is the increasing fleet size of marine cargo ships. The increasing cargo ship fleet size owing to the increase in trade via sea routes has led to a rise in the demand for marine-based IGGS systems. In addition, the growing demand for on-site industrial Inert Gas Generation Systems and the increasing number of aircraft & marine cargo ships in developing economies are expected to propel the market growth.

The factor that is expected to inhibit the growth of the market is the safety standards set by government authorities. In addition, the requirement for long-term agreements with nitrogen gas suppliers is another major factor hindering the market growth of inert gas generator systems during the forecast period.

Key Players Covered:

Some of the major companies that are present in the inert gas generator system market are Air Liquide, Alfa Laval, Cobham, COLDHARBOUR MARINE Ltd., Eaton, Honeywell, Novair Group, On Site Gas Systems Inc., Parker Hannifin, and Wartsila.

Regional Analysis:

The inert gas generator system market has been studied across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. North America dominates the market and is expected to hold a major share in the market, owing to the increasing commercial aircraft & military cargo aircraft procurement in the region. In addition, the growing fleet size of marine cargo ships in the region is expected to boost the market growth for inert gas generator systems. The U.S. holds the major share in the market and dominates the market in the region, followed by Canada. For instance, the U.S. Air Force awarded a contract worth 1.1 billion USD to Boeing for the delivery of F-15EX aircraft. F-15EX is an all-weather multi-role fourth generation plus strike aircraft upgraded from older F-15 aircraft. Such investment in the production of military & commercial aircraft is projected to propel the market growth in the country.

Europe is another major market for inert gas generator systems, owing to the presence of several key players in the region. In addition, the growing trade via different marine routes in the region is expected to boost the market demand. Major countries contributing to the European market are Germany, U.K., Italy, France, and Russia. The Asia Pacific is projected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecast period, owing to the growth in industries such as oil & gas, chemicals, metallurgical, and electronics in the region. Countries such as India and China are leading to increasing demand for on-site installation of N2 generators in the region. In addition, the growing demand for commercial aircraft and the rise in commercial air travel is expected to fuel the demand for aviation-based IGGS systems in the region.
