A packer can be defined as an expandable plug that is used to insulate sections in a borehole or well. An inflatable packer is a cylindrical elastic membrane that is used to isolate sections in a borehole or well. The ends of the membrane are sealed and when it is pressurized internally it radially inflates. Inflatable packers are easily pass through restriction and they can withstand extremities during projects. These packers can overcome operating challenges faced in underground mining and oilfield such as tunneling, borehole measurement, and others.

Based on packer type, the global inflatable packer market is segmented into steel fortified inflatable packer, wireline inflatable packer, sliding-end inflatable packer, and fixed-end inflatable packer. The sliding-end packer helps in the sliding of the element gland on one end. This packer assembly consists of an O-ring seal and this packer is highly preferred for high-pressure applications. The sliding-end packer is also used for open boreholes where the pressure difference between the lower and upper limit of the packer ranges between 100-5,000 psi. The sliding-end packer segment is estimated to witness significant growth during the forecast period. The fixed packer system consists of a fully reinforced element, reinforced element, and non-reinforced element.

Based on application, the global inflatable packer market is segmented into pumping, injection, grouting, flow control, sampling, testing, and hydrofracturing. The inflatable is highly recommended for injection application as it is used to observe the fracturing process at the time of fluid injection into the undermining zone. The inflatable packer is used in mineral drilling to conduct permeability testing, in which this packer isolates a section of the hole to allow controlled pumping into this zone. Thus, these are significant components for pumping.

Based on end-user, the global inflatable packer market is segmented into construction, mining, oil & gas, and water resources. The inflatable packer is widely used in construction activities as an underground testing device for the measurement of liquid pressure and it is used in drilling too. In the oil & gas sector, this instrument is widely used to provide a seal between the inside of the casing, wellbore, liner, and outside of production tubing.

The demand for inflatable packers is widely increasing in the market as the number of new refineries is increasing around the world. The demand for deeper undergoing mining activities is also increasing and this leads to a rise in the usage of inflatable packers. The inflatable packer has a high-pressure rating and expansion ratio along with a large interior diameter and minimum outside diameter. However, the inflatable is designed to be used carefully as it may over-expand and burst.

Key Players Covered:

Some of the major companies in the global inflatable packer market are RST Instrumentation Ltd., Schlumberger, GeoPro, Acim, Baski Inc., Inflatable Packers International, International Rubber Product Group, Baker Hughes, Aardvark Packers, Roctest Ltd., Desoi GmbH, Geomarc Srl, TAM International, Saga, RIPE, Archway, and WEBAC.

Regional Analysis:

The global inflatable packer market is studied across different regions like North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. North America is likely to dominate the market during the forecast period.  The region facing high demand for inflatable packers due to the increasing use of such packers in the construction, mining, and oil & gas industries. The U.S is likely to lead the inflatable packer market in the region due to the increasing demand for injection tools in this country. The investment in the construction and oil & gas industry is widely increasing in North America. Asia Pacific region is likely to foresee significant growth during the forecast period. The number of refineries is increasing in developing countries such as India and China which created better growth opportunities for the inflatable packer market. The investment in the oil & gas sector is increasing in this region.
