Peracetic acid also called as peroxyacetic acid and abbreviated as PAA with chemical formula CH₃CO₃H. This organic peroxide has specific acrid odor reminiscent of acetic acid and is corrosive colorless liquid. Commercially it is prepared by autoxidation of the acetaldehyde. It can also be prepared by reacting acetic acid with hydrogen peroxide in presence of a strong acid catalyst.  It is used as a fungicide or bactericide particularly for food processing applications.
