Sodium fluorosilicate is a white powder which is used as a fluoridating agent for drinking water and in porcelain enamels. This is sometimes used as a lice insecticide, drug for veterinary purposes, and rodenticide. Sodium fluorosilicate is manufactured from sodium chloride or sodium sulfate neutralizing fluorosilic acid. Sodium fluorosilicate is employed as an opacificating agent in the manufacture of vitreous enamels and opalescent glass.  Sodium fluorosilicate is in the form of white crystals,  or moreover of a  hexagonal colorless crystal. It is insoluble. It breaks down in solvents such as ethyl ether.
