Trichlorosilane (TCS) is a volatile, colorless liquid with the chemical formula SiHCl3. It is an inorganic compound manufactured by reacting powdered silicon with hydrogen chloride and has a sharp, acidic odor. Trichlorosilane is a flammable compound and gets easily dissolved with organic solvents and fumes present in the air. It is used for the production of silicone, and silicon which are further used in solar panels and semiconductors. Trichlorosilane has high demand from electronics industry as it is used in the manufacturing of polycrystalline silicon.

The factors expected to drive the trichlorosilane market is the growing demand for the manufacture of solar photovoltaics. The rising need for alternate energy sources due to the depletion of fossil fuels is expected to grow the trichlorosilane market as TCS is widely used in the production of semiconductor silicon.

The volatile nature of trichlorosilane is expected to act as a restraint for the market. TCS is a flammable and corrosive compound and forms an explosive mixture with the air, thereby increasing the cost of handling and storage. The above factors are expected to be the reason for the decline in the market.
