"Actionable Insights to Fuel Your Growth"
Refining of crude oil encompasses a number of processes in refineries. Removal of water and contaminants generally comprises two steps viz. dehydrating and desalting. Both processes are essential to avoid corrosion and fouling of refineries equipment such as heat exchanger, pumps, and others. Electrostatic treatment is typically preceded by 2-phase or 3-phase bulk separation in the upstream process. Electrostatic coalescers are applied as the final separation step to break up emulsion and reduce the remaining water fraction. Desalting is a process to remove salt contents from crude oil. Desalting often occurs in two stages, such as dehydration followed by desalting as salt is soluble in water. Salts are dissolved by the addition of wash water between dehydrator and desalter, which ensures a high dilution rate. The dilution is necessary since dehydration alone is usually not sufficient to reach typical salinity values in the export crude (~10-100PTB). Hence, both the processes are essential to yield premium quality petroleum products.
Crude oil desalter & electrostatic dehydrator market is classified into electrostatic dehydrator type and desalter type. Electrostatic dehydrator type is further divided into alternating current (AC), direct current (DC), and AC-DC dehydrator. AC electrostatic dehydrator is projected to dominate the market, owing to its simplicity and reliability. Desalter is divided into single-stage, double stage, and tripe stage. The double stage anticipated considerable growth owing to the rising uptake of heavy crude oil in refineries.
Increasing demand for oil and gas compelled operators to expand refineries refining capacity likely to drive the market. In addition, growing investment in setting up new refineries and upgradation of existing refineries set to barge the crude oil desalter and electrostatic dehydrator market.
Covid-19 outbreak has fluctuated the world’s economy and severely affected the growth hydrocarbon industry. Moreover, the growing adoption of renewable energy across the globe to impede the growth of the market.

The crude oil desalter & electrostatic dehydrator market is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa. United States is a crucial player in shaping the market in North America, which encompasses 135 refineries as of January 2019, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). In January 2019, U.S. operable atmospheric crude oil distillation capacity reached a record high 18.8 million barrels per calendar day, an increase of 1.1% from the previous year. Also, the growing investment in upgradation of refineries likely to boost the growth of the market in North America. European countries expected to exhibit a slight growth owing to the rising uptake of renewable energy sources in the united kingdom, Germany, Norway, and others to mitigate the increasing carbon emission. Asia Pacific is gaining traction on account of growing investment by China and India for increasing refining capacity. Both countries consume a considerable amount of energy in the world. Population explosion and urbanization increased the demand for energy, which likely to underpin the market in Asia Pacific. The Gulf countries are playing a vital role in market prospects. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, and Iran are continuously increasing production capacity, which proves to be beneficial for the market.
