Fatty amines are fatty acid/olefins compounds extracted from raw materials such as petrochemicals, fats, and oils dependent on nitrogen. Fatty amines contain either a combination of carbon chains or a single chain and such amines are generally found in oleochemicals and are formed by the hydrogenation process in fatty nitriles. This cycle includes three fatty amine groups, such as principal, secondary and tertiary which come from the raw materials like fats, oils and petrochemicals. Fatty amines are used in many fields, including water treatment, agrochemicals, oilfield chemicals, asphalt additives, anti-caking, among other uses, including logging, personal care, fabric softeners, paints & coatings, and more.

Products which use fatty amines for their corrosion inhibitors, biocides and disinfectants are gaining importance in increased demand for water treatments. Growing demand from the construction industry because of its adhesion between the asphalt and mineral aggregates is expected to fuel the market of fatty amines. The building and construction activites are increasing in the developing regions and thus the demand is high from such regions.

However, raw material price fluctuations and unpredictable fatty amine demand are likely to hamper the development of the global market for fatty amines. Continuous exposure to fatty amines may also have carcinogenic effects on humans, which has led to stringent regulatory controls that are also expected to hinder the development of the global demand for fatty amines over the projected period.
