The flocking process is defined as the electrostatic incorporation of small fibre particulate into an adhesive layer. This procedure can be used to attain surface properties such as silencing, insulating, gliding, cleaning, and decorative properties. The flocking process can also be used for insulation, friction, and low refraction. Flock adhesives are durable, friction resistant, washable, storable and heat & cold resistant. It is important to consider properties of substrate & adhesives before flocking. The end product after flocking process need to be solvent resistant, cleanable, rigid or flexible, pigmented, or flame retardant. Thus, based on desired end product characteristics, the selection of substrate is done.

The widespread use of flock adhesives in the automotive industry, combined with increasing adoption in the production of thermal insulation, automotive interiors, and other mechanical tools, is expected to open up new growth opportunities for the industry. Flock adhesives form a seal around automotive windows, assisting in thermal insulation. It is also used to reduce noise between automobile parts. It is also used in joining applications, which helps to reduce the weight of a vehicle. Furthermore, soaring demand for lightweight automobiles is expected to boost product demand in the long run. However, high start-up and maintenance costs are impeding market growth for small & medium scaled manufacturers.

Regional Analysis:

Rising demand from the textile industry, especially in China and India, is expected to drive market growth in Asia Pacific. Many flock adhesives manufacturers are focusing on technological development to enhance their production plants in Asia Pacific. The North American flock adhesives market is expected to grow due to the rapid growth of automotive & textile industry. Applications such as conductive fabric with electrostatic properties, computerized textiles that can measure heart rate, antimicrobial fibres, personal protective equipment, and advanced garments are driving demand for flock adhesives in the region. The U.S. is the major market owing to the presence of a significant number of textile manufacturers. The textile and apparel industry in the U.S. was valued at USD 75.8 billion in 2019, according to the National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO). Furthermore, according to NTCO projections, the U.S. is the world's second-largest export market for textile-related goods. The high production of epoxy adhesives in Europe, owing to their high strength, and versatility in structural bonding, has boosted market growth in the region. Furthermore, the high demand for wood composites and the use of water-based paints and coatings in monuments and structures in Italy, Germany, and France has boosted the market growth. The Middle East is expected to see a surge in demand for luxury paper packaging. Flocking is primarily used for luxury packaging for jewellery by Arab jewellery designers. This is likely to benefit the packaging industry, which will increase demand for flock adhesives. Latin America is supposed to enhance domestic textile industrial production in Brazil & Mexico. This, in turn, is likely to indicate significant market growth in the region.
