Demand for electricity is multiplying on account of the increasing population and increasing power consumption per capita. Stable and reliable supply of electricity is key to the development of all countries. Distribution of electricity is carried out in a variety of places; right from power generation units to commercial establishments. Electrical bushings are mandatory for the continuous and stable distribution of electricity. Electrical bushing has become necessary because it ensures the safety of both man and machine.

The electrical bushing transmits electrical power in or out of enclosures, i.e., barriers, of an electrical apparatus such as transformers, circuit breakers, shunt reactors, and power capacitors. The bushing conductor is a conductor built directly as a part of the bushing or as a separate conductor that is drawn through, usually through the center of, the bushing.

Since electrical power which is the product of voltage and current, insulation in a bushing must be capable of withstanding the voltage at which it is applied, and its current-carrying conductor must be capable of carrying rated current without overheating the adjacent insulation.

Based on type, the electrical bushings are divided into oil impregnated paper, resin impregnated paper and others. According to insulation, electrical bushings are divided into porcelain, polymeric and others. Based on voltage, the markert is segmented as medium, high and extra-high voltage. Based on application, the electrical bushing market is bifurcated into transformer, switchgear, and others. Based on end-user, the market is segmented as utilities, industrial and others.

The primary market driver for the global electrical bushing market is the increasing demand for a stable and reliable supply of power distribution. Modernization of existing electrical infrastructure will boost the need for an electrical bushing. The rising electrification and rapid urbanization of developing countries will spur the demand for the electrical bushing.

The critical market restraint for the global electrical bushing market is the oscillating price of raw materials. Tariffs and trade restriction also play a significant role in increasing costs of raw material.

Regional Analysis

Based on the region, the electrical bushing market has been divided into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. The government of the USA has taken the initiative to modernize, upgrade, and refurbish aging electrical infrastructure. Similar efforts are made in Europe, China, Australia, and Canada. Such actions are expected to boost demand for the electrical bushing market. Electrification of rural areas in developing countries of Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Middle-East, and Africa will raise the market of the electrical bushing in the forecast period. The emergence of power generation projects in Asia-Pacific, Middle-East, and Latin-America has increased the need for an electrical bushing.

Key Industry Developments

  • In June 2019, Global electrical test equipment expert Megger has acquired Power Diagnostix of Aachen, Germany, a leader in the development and manufacture of high voltage diagnostic equipment, and the provision of diagnostic services for high voltage installations.

  • In Feb 2019, Siemens introduced the On-Demand Mobile Resilience Transformer (GSU Resilence Transformer). The GSU Resilience Transformer is easy to load and ship and it is plug and play bushings allow for an extremely short installation time.
