Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a synthetic polymer obtained by polymerization of acrylamide monomer, with the molecular formula CH2CHCONH2. It is majorly used for flocculation of solids in a liquid, in processes such as water treatment, paper making, and screen printing due to its gel like properties. Another common uses of polyacrylamide and its derivatives are enhanced oil recovery and soil conditioning. Polyacrylamide is supplied in the form of powder, solution, and emulsion polymer. It is a chemical intermediate in the production of N-Methylol acrylamide and N-butoxyacrylamide. The exponential rise in population has increased the need for water purification, hence growing the need for polyacrylamide.

The key market driver for the global polyacrylamide market is the growing use of polyacrylamide in the petroleum industry to improve the recovery of oil.

Key market restraint for the global polyacrylamide market is the side effects related to the polyacrylamide. The use of polyacrylamide in agriculture might contaminate the food with acrylamide, which is a carcinogen and neurotoxin.
